Snohomish Fire & Rescue continues to offer Outdoor Burning Permits in those areas of the District where burning is allowed by the Department of Ecology. The Washington State Clean Air Act requires that anyone conducting an outdoor burn for the purpose of yard waste disposal have in their possession a permit from the local governing agency.

January 1, 2001 the Department of Ecology imposed new regulations on outdoor burning and designated all of the Fire Districts west of the Pilchuck River as a "NO BURN" area. Click here to download a map of this area in Fire District #4. This change outlaws all types of outdoor burning except recreation fires, three feet in diameter maximum, in these areas. Puget Sound Clean Air Agency enforces these regulations. For any problems regarding air pollution and probable illegal burns contact them at 1-800-552-3565 or on the web at www.pscleanair.org. Please DO NOT call 911 to report these situations.

The Burn Permit that we issue you is valid for 30 days. It allows you to burn residential yard waste in a pile not larger than four feet (4’) in diameter and three feet (3’) high. Our permit has specific requirements for the manner in which you should conduct your burn so that you may complete your burn in as safe a manner as possible. You can receive a permit by going to our Headquarters Station at 1525 Avenue D or Station 42 at 6724 171st Avenue S.E. or by downloading and printing a copy. You can then fill out the highlighted spaces, bring it in to either station and have it signed by a Fire District 4 representative.

Snohomish Fire & Rescue is not allowed to issue permits for land clearing fires, agricultural fires, or ceremonial type fires under Department of Ecology rules. Under current Department of Ecology rules, recreational fires may be conducted in all areas of the District without a permit.

(then bring in to our station for a Fire Department representative's authorizing signature)
