SNOHOMISH FIRE & RESCUE
CODE OF ETHICS
As a member of the Fire District and an Emergency Responder, I regard myself as a
member of an important and highly honorable
profession who’s fundamental duty is to serve mankind, safeguard
lives and protect property . . .
- I recognize and acknowledge that
I am a public servant, funded and supported by public
tax dollars and therefore I serve the public NOT for personal gain
or glory, but rather to accomplish the mission of Snohomish
Fire/Rescue in providing the best of care and assistance to everyone
I encounter.
- I recognize my position as an
emergency provider is a symbol of public faith and that I
am a bearer of the utmost public trust -- serving them in
honesty, integrity and faithfulness -- protecting their dignity
and the confidentiality of their private lives.
- I shall not touch other people’s
property or possessions, nor enter private property without need or
authorization. I shall protect other people’s valuables/property and
shall insure that these possessions are returned to the owner at the
earliest possible time.
- I will perform my duty with
efficiency, good judgment and impartially to the best of my ability
-- accepting full responsibility for all of my actions.
- I will conduct myself and perform
my duties in an honest and professional manner, contributory to my
fellow workers AND observe and uphold the rules and regulations of
the Fire District and the laws of the county, state and nation;
- I will not work for unethical
advantage or profit and will not compromise integrity for
advancement or personal gain in the performance of my duty.
- I will recognize at all times
that I am a public safety employee, and that ultimately I am
responsible to the public and in that regard, am held to a higher
standard of conduct by the public.
- I will strive for those values
which will reflect honor on my fellow firefighters, the Fire
District and myself, and regard my fellow firefighters with the same
standards and respect as I maintain myself.
- I will work as a team member to
achieve the goals of the organization, and follow the orders of the
officers appointed over me.
- I will develop and maintain an
attitude of safety in the duties and tasks that I execute for the
sake of the public, my fellow firefighter, my family and for myself.
- I accept as a personal duty to
keep myself well educated and trained as an emergency responder.
- I will keep my private life
honorable as an example to EVERYONE of my honorable calling as a
Firefighter.
- I recognize the positive
relationship between good physical and mental conditioning and the
performance of my job and commit myself to appropriate conditioning
in order to keep myself prepared to perform.
- I share a reciprocal affinity
with and obligation to my fellow firefighters, my administration,
and my agency.
