SNOHOMISH FIRE & RESCUE

CODE OF ETHICS

As a member of the Fire District and an Emergency Responder, I regard myself as a member of an important and highly honorable profession who’s fundamental duty is to serve mankind, safeguard lives and protect property . . .
  • I recognize and acknowledge that I am a public servant, funded and supported by public tax dollars and therefore I serve the public NOT for personal gain or glory, but rather to accomplish the mission of Snohomish Fire/Rescue in providing the best of care and assistance to everyone I encounter.
  • I recognize my position as an emergency provider is a symbol of public faith and that I am a bearer of the utmost public trust -- serving them in honesty, integrity and faithfulness -- protecting their dignity and the confidentiality of their private lives.
  • I shall not touch other people’s property or possessions, nor enter private property without need or authorization. I shall protect other people’s valuables/property and shall insure that these possessions are returned to the owner at the earliest possible time.
  • I will perform my duty with efficiency, good judgment and impartially to the best of my ability -- accepting full responsibility for all of my actions.
  • I will conduct myself and perform my duties in an honest and professional manner, contributory to my fellow workers AND observe and uphold the rules and regulations of the Fire District and the laws of the county, state and nation;
  • I will not work for unethical advantage or profit and will not compromise integrity for advancement or personal gain in the performance of my duty.
  • I will recognize at all times that I am a public safety employee, and that ultimately I am responsible to the public and in that regard, am held to a higher standard of conduct by the public.
  • I will strive for those values which will reflect honor on my fellow firefighters, the Fire District and myself, and regard my fellow firefighters with the same standards and respect as I maintain myself.
  • I will work as a team member to achieve the goals of the organization, and follow the orders of the officers appointed over me.
  • I will develop and maintain an attitude of safety in the duties and tasks that I execute for the sake of the public, my fellow firefighter, my family and for myself.
  • I accept as a personal duty to keep myself well educated and trained as an emergency responder.
  • I will keep my private life honorable as an example to EVERYONE of my honorable calling as a Firefighter.
  • I recognize the positive relationship between good physical and mental conditioning and the performance of my job and commit myself to appropriate conditioning in order to keep myself prepared to perform.
  • I share a reciprocal affinity with and obligation to my fellow firefighters, my administration, and my agency.
